THE GRACE OF GOD- A TRUE STORYKunal Roy
The evening descent amid the twiterring of birds and buzz of crickets in the bushes. I simply logged out. The day's assignment was over. Little later I boarded a couple of auto rickshaws to reach the Metro station.
I climbed down the steps. And a sense of rattle moved down my spine as soon as I was approached by a guy, claiming to be a member of UNICEF. His group members were also with him. It seemed as if being accosted by evils! They were presentable, extraordinarily fluent in English Language but I simply couldn't fathom what was going in their mind. One of them acted in a hypnotizing manner. He persuaded him in such a manner that I couldn't even utter a few words. He explained me every tiny detail on the benefit of donating money for the children of lesser gods. All the bank details were taken. As fate would behold, something wrong took place at the end of the story! However, it is worth mentioning that I didn't want to indulge in the whole affair. It all happened by a juxtaposition of chance and coincidence! The whole set of formality was completed. But the entire attempt turned out to be abortive when he asked for the debit card details! To be very honest, I donot use any such financial card. I prefer to conduct my financial transactions in cash and cheque! The expression of the whole ambience changed without any second thought. A sense of overwhelming disappointment gripped the heart and soul of the young guy. The tide turned to my favour. I was literally saved from the clutches of fraudulent practice!
At times I don't say anything nor I take a different measure to tackle the situation. I watch till the end. And here I behaved in the same style. I was cool and composed. I listened to him with rapt heed! In fact there was a roar of laughter as I climbed up the steps to purchase the token and catch the train before it was too late! Was it a laughter of defeat? Was it an attempt to mock at themselves? I still donot know except the soft smile that appeared around my lips and brought a sense of relief like the cool breeze in the summer evening!!
