THE GRUESOME BRUTALITY: A TRUE PICTURE OF SAVAGERY

Kunal Roy

Better late than never", this is perhaps one of the best ways to appreciate the step taken by the Supreme Court after a spate of rapes and subsequent murders of the innocent girl child! The recent events have shown us how little flowers have been crushed mercilessly under the wheels of male greed and lust. I often try to explore the root behind committing such unpardonable crimes. Are such people frustrated? Are such people depressed in any way? Are such people believe to satiate their sensual pleasure by taking the  life of an innocent? Such questions often remain unanswered. What good comes out of it? Nothing but a momentary content , that continues one after the another, as if their birthright! Moreover, it is not that we have not raised our voice or taken a walk with candles to seek justice, and perhaps the recent opinion on 'execution' has proved our point of success to a reasonable extent! The long latent thoughts have waken up from their deep slumber. They have been translated into reality and hopefully will take the shape of a stringent law to combat with such deadly evils. The state ought to claim"open hanging till death in public" instead of lethal injection and court marshal as an exemplary punishment for such crimes. However, we need to wait and watch the following steps of the authority.
Years have whaled away. But the offence of rape has not changed a bit! The "rape lovers" have not budged an inch. Things take place so independently that no such formidable punishment can cause a fright in them. The atrocious crime commited against Nirbhaya in a cold December night of more than a decade ago in the dark street of the Country Capital and now the R G Kar Hospital crucial issue , where a trainee doctor has been  brutally ravished and thown away in the seminar room  by the crude offenders! The blood bathed eye, the tattered cloth , the nude body - all have borne a strong witness to the immeasurable anguish she had to undergo at the hour of intolerable torment! She has died, but a question remains: Will the rapists be punished? Will the exemplary punishment be awarded to them? A big No indeed!!
The flame of protest will hopefully extinguish by a week or two. The fire will flicker, followed by the soot disappearing in the open air. Creating awareness is an old idiom - people make faces at it! So the way out of this horrendous tale is : Strike the offender in the open battle field. Gouge out their eyes. Kill them openly. The time is here to make open and virulent attacks, focus least on the protocols of law and order!!
