LET US INVEST IN OUR PLANET! | Kunal Roy

Since time immemorial people have protested against the gruesome injustice to obtain a recognition of their rights and responsibilities. Guns, rifles, bullets and the other means of atrocities have always been in the air. The snapped limbs, the broken bones, the ripped off nails, the blood bathed chest and above all the eyes which have been gouged out in vehemence have always formed the kernel of the whole story.

Recognition of 22nd April as the 'World Earth Day' was snatched by the common folk. It was not an easy task like tasting a morsel! People fought for this noble cause. Thousands deluged the street. The largest single - day protest in the annals of human history. Fathoming the seriousness of the situation the mighty authority acknowledged the importance of the day. It was the moment where the story began with all its delight. More than five decades have passed and even at this hour the people of the world observe the day in a befitting manner!

The earth is beautiful. Embellished with  flora and fauna. The morning sun rise, the pleasing summer afternoons, the gentle breeze of spring, the winter shed of leaves and the amassing of dark black clouds in the blue sky to come back on the earth in the form of drizzle or shower have inspired us in many ways to do something good for the planet! However, things often fail to reflect as planned. The selfish souls derive an inexplicable pleasure by destroying the nature. Deforestation has become the order of the day. The forests are empty. The creatures are shelterless. The vacant grasslands, the contaminated water bodies, the snowless mountains have cordially invited the peril! With the passing of every moment, the blood of our mother earth is managing to reach its ebullient point! Destruction has become an inevitable choice. It seems a matter of compulsion! A wide range of malfunctions have seen the light of the day. Global warming, soil erosion, disturbance of the eco systems, flouting the environmental norms and on the top of all a sheer malignant approach to the whole have become a major area of  concern! The nature never desires to seek revenge. But if the threshold of endurance is crossed, nature will avenge her torment beyond any room of doubt!

Humans are callous individuals. We think we are independent. But the truth is different. The cycle of nature believes in the mantra of 'interdependence'. Once the status of this ecological balance is perturbed, things are bound to run on the wrong track to reach the wrong destination!

It is true we are governed by sick hurry, vaulted ambitions and self interest. Yet it is the high time to rethink, to reassess before we reach the state of jeopardy. The earth doesn't desire any colour of financial investment. It needs something beyond our material mental make up. It needs a bit of love, care and respect. It needs benevolence to bestow the human race with the rarest of rare gifts! The mother earth is an embodiment of virtues and always seeks the good of her children. But the children do also have a responsibility towards their mother. A mother - child bond is the best gift of God. Let us value this invaluable relationship. Let us share her moments of rejoice. Let us comprehend her hidden anguish. Let us act as a soothing salvo to her scars. Let us comfort her ached soul! After all we, the poor mortals really don't have a choice to refrain ourselves from weaving another extinct story!!
