8th March - It is once more!

Today we have celebrated "Women's Day" amid pomp and show. The prime purpose behind taking this day to a different high is to bring the undeniable strength and power of womanhood before the patriarchy. Over the years the masculine gender has reigned supreme on this earth, denying the rights and authority of the female section of the society. They have always been treated as a commodity in the social culture and have to bear the inhuman torments meted out by the male dominating society. There has been hardly any moment left when women have not been made to stand at a point of subjugation! The lips are shut and whenever they have tried to open up to speak for justice, the throat has either been slitted or the voice has been muffled into silence forever! A tragic tale indeed!!
At this present hour, when we see changes in everything and expect to uphold their dignity, there is always a pseudo force which attempts to pull them back, making them realise: " you are worthy of it, no matter how times have changed!". And this is the reality beyond any doubt.
We talk about women empowerment, equality between between men and women, but little we do realise that such stuff looks better in the scripted words as they are never put into practice by this incorrigible society. A handful of sporadic events do not bring them at par with the male counterparts. And the reasons lie in the lack of education, lack of alacrity, lack of urge to show respect and a lot more male ego and chauvinism! If such malicious elements are in vogue, then where does the essence of this celebration lie? De facto, the masculine gender never desires to accept womanhood as an inseparable part of the whole story of creation. A devilish pleasure is derived out of tormenting them. The society points at a woman, if she lives alone, if she returns a little late at home! Indeed a difficult proposition to ascertain in the accepted sense of term. It is apt to quote the words of Taslima Nasreen, " After all three sixty four days belong to the male section and only this single day is dedicated to them". Will they ever be allowed to script their own destiny and eventually conquer her?
