21 ST MAY : THE BLOOD BATH! | Kunal Roy

1991. A blast. An assassination. A tragedy in the Indian History. The honourable Prime Minister Mr Rajiv Ghandhi was brutally slaughtered after the severe plot was hatched by a handful of people who believed terrorism to be the one and only way of seeking liberty from the tyranny! Political assassinations are not something very uncommon nor unconventional.

Ranging from Abraham Lincoln to John F Kennedy to Mahatma Gandhi to Indira Gandhi to Sanjay Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi, the scenario had been more or less the same except in the strategy that was being adopted to kill such political stalwarts and deliver a severe blow to the democracy. Moreover, it is interesting to note that such acts of lofty political crimes were smoothly carried out without any prior intimation!

Years rolled by, tears rolled down the cheeks and a sense of eternal void was created in the political arena. But democracy didn't stop to exercise its influence over the mass. Power and throne are literally little in significance before the broad canvas of a democratic rule! Today is the 32nd death anniversary of Mr Rajiv Gandhi. Still the heart bleeds profusely without giving a second thought!!
